KCTV5 News is the CBS-affiliated television station for the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is owned by Gray Television and broadcasts from studios located in Overland Park, Kansas.

History

KCTV5 first went on the air in 1953 as WDAF-TV. The station was originally owned by the Kansas City Star Company, which also owned the Kansas City Star newspaper. In 1986, WDAF-TV was sold to Gannett Company. In 2013, Gannett sold the station to Gray Television.

KCTV5 News is the top-rated news operation in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The station produces local newscasts at 5:00 AM, 6:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 4:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, 9:00 PM, and 10:00 PM. KCTV5 also produces a weeknight primetime newsmagazine called "41 Action News at 9:00."
