Mietz is a simple yet engaging abstract strategy board game for two players. The game revolves around strategically placing and moving cat-shaped pieces, called "Mietz," on a grid-based board with the ultimate goal of creating a straight line of four Mietz of your color, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The gameplay emphasizes blocking your opponent's attempts to form their own line while simultaneously developing your own strategic position. Players take turns placing a Mietz on an empty space on the board. Once all Mietz have been placed, players then take turns moving one of their Mietz to an adjacent empty space.

The strategic depth in Mietz lies in the limited movement options and the need to anticipate your opponent's moves. Players must carefully consider the potential consequences of each placement and movement, as a single misstep can open up opportunities for their opponent to create the winning line. Blocking is a crucial element, requiring players to identify and neutralize threats before they materialize. Furthermore, planning ahead and creating multiple potential lines of attack is key to overwhelming your opponent's defenses. Mietz offers a surprisingly challenging experience despite its simple ruleset, rewarding careful planning, tactical thinking, and the ability to adapt to changing board conditions. Its quick playtime and easy-to-learn rules make it accessible to a wide range of players, while its strategic depth provides lasting replayability.
