Step By Step Salah - Namaz

Salah, also known as Namaz, is one of the five pillars of Islam and is an essential part of a Muslim's daily life. It is a ritual prayer performed at specific times throughout the day and serves as a direct connection between the worshiper and Allah.

Step 1: Purification (Wudu)

Before performing Salah, it is obligatory to perform Wudu, a ritual purification process that involves washing specific parts of the body. This includes the face, arms, head, and feet. Wudu purifies the body and prepares the worshiper for prayer.

Step 2: Intention (Niyyah)

The next step is to set the intention (Niyyah) to perform Salah. This is done by silently stating the specific Salah being performed, such as Fajr (dawn prayer) or Maghrib (sunset prayer). Niyyah establishes the purpose of the prayer and directs the worshiper's focus.

Step 3: Takbiratul Ihram

The Salah begins with Takbiratul Ihram, the initial declaration that marks the commencement of prayer. This is done by raising both hands to the ears and saying "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great). Takbiratul Ihram signifies the transition into a state of prayer.

Step 4: Qiyam

After Takbiratul Ihram, the worshiper stands upright in a position called Qiyam. In this position, the hands are placed on the chest, with the right hand over the left. Qiyam represents the state of humility and submission before Allah.

Step 5: Recitation (Qira'ah)

While standing in Qiyam, the worshiper recites verses from the Quran. This includes the opening chapter (Surah Al-Fatihah) and additional verses. Qira'ah is an essential part of Salah and serves as a means of connecting with Allah through His words.

Step 6: Ruku'

After Qira'ah, the worshiper bows down in a position called Ruku'. In this position, the hands are placed on the knees, and the back is kept straight. Ruku' symbolizes humility and submission before Allah.

Step 7: Sujud

From Ruku', the worshiper prostrates in a position called Sujud. In this position, the forehead, nose, and hands touch the ground, while the buttocks are raised. Sujud is the highest point of humility and represents complete submission to Allah.

Step 8: Sitting (Julus)

After Sujud, the worshiper sits in a position called Julus. In this position, the buttocks are placed on the ground, and the legs are folded. Julus provides a brief rest before the next prostration.

Step 9: Second Sujud

The worshiper performs a second Sujud, similar to the first. This completes one unit (Rak'ah) of Salah. Depending on the specific Salah being performed, multiple Rak'ahs are required.

Step 10: Tashahhud

After completing the required Rak'ahs, the worshiper sits in a position called Tashahhud. In this position, the right foot is placed under the right thigh, and the left foot is placed flat on the ground. Tashahhud involves reciting specific prayers and salutations.

Step 11: Salam

The Salah concludes with Salam. This involves turning the head to the right and saying "Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah" (Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah), and then turning to the left and repeating the same phrase. Salam signifies the end of the prayer and the return to daily activities.
