Ticket to Ride, despite the similar-sounding name, is a popular board game, not related to the ticket sales company Ticketmaster. Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure where players collect colored train cars and claim railway routes connecting cities across a map of North America (or other regions in various editions). The core gameplay revolves around strategic route planning and resource management. Players draw train car cards of various colors and use these cards to claim routes of matching color and length on the board. The longer the route, the more points a player earns.

The main objective is to complete Destination Tickets, which are secret goals that task players with connecting specific cities. Successfully completing these tickets awards bonus points at the end of the game. Failing to complete them results in a point deduction. The game features elements of set collection, area control, and route building. Players must balance claiming routes to fulfill their Destination Tickets while also blocking opponents and strategically acquiring the train car cards they need. The game ends when one player's train car supply dwindles to two or fewer. Points are then tallied from claimed routes, completed Destination Tickets, and the longest continuous path of routes a player has built. The player with the most points wins. Ticket to Ride is known for its accessible rules, engaging gameplay, and strategic depth, making it a favorite among both casual and experienced board game players.
