Owned by the Meredith Corporation, it is the flagship station of the company's Local Media division. History
WFSB first signed on the air on October 1, 1957, as WTIC-TV. The station was founded by the Travelers Insurance Company, which also owned the Hartford Courant newspaper and WTIC radio. WTIC-TV was the first television station in Connecticut, and it quickly became a dominant force in the Hartford market.
In 1982, Travelers sold WTIC-TV to Capital Cities Communications. Capital Cities merged with ABC in 1985, and WTIC-TV became an ABC affiliate. In 1996, Capital Cities/ABC was acquired by The Walt Disney Company.
In 2015, Disney announced that it would sell its television stations, including WFSB, to the Meredith Corporation. The sale was completed in 2016.
