WJTV 12 - News for Jackson, MS

WJTV 12 is the CBS-affiliated television station serving the Jackson, Mississippi, metropolitan area. It is owned by Gray Television and broadcasts from studios located on Frontage Road in Flowood, Mississippi.

History

WJTV began broadcasting on September 1, 1953, as the first television station in Mississippi. It was originally owned by the Mississippi Broadcasting Company, a group of local investors. The station's first general manager was Bill Waller, and its first news director was Jack Hunter.

WJTV initially operated from a small studio on North State Street in Jackson. In 1957, the station moved to a larger facility on West Capitol Street. In 1984, WJTV became the first television station in Mississippi to broadcast in color.

Programming

WJTV 12 broadcasts a mix of local news, syndicated programming, and CBS network shows. The station's local newscasts are produced from its studios in Flowood and are anchored by Byron Brown, Janelle Carter, and Marcus Hunter.

In addition to its local newscasts, WJTV 12 also produces a variety of other local programming, including the weekly public affairs show "Mississippi Matters" and the sports show "The Blitz." The station also airs syndicated programming such as "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Dr. Phil," and "Entertainment Tonight."

WJTV 12 has been recognized for its excellence in journalism and broadcasting. The station has won numerous awards from the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters, including the "Station of the Year" award in 2018.
