Escape! Sony PS5 is not affected by tariffs for the time being and may increase its price in the future
Sony temporarily evaded the impact of Trump's tariff policy on PS5 through forward-looking layout, but this is only a stopgap measure. In order to cope with potential tariff risks, Sony has taken measures such as dual-track supply chain construction and inventory buffering, and maintained the stability of host prices in the short term. However, if the policy continues and existing inventory is exhausted, a price increase will inevitably be avoided.
So far, PS5 is mainly produced in China, facing a tax rate of up to 54%. If transferred to a Japanese factory, the tax rate can be reduced to 24%, but hardware prices in the US market will still rise.
Analyst Daniel Ahmad pointed out that Sony needs to weigh the impact of tariffs on profit margins and the possible price increase. Accessories and game prices may also be adjusted accordingly. However, initial storage storage, Japanese local production capacity, PS5 has entered the profit cycle, and PS5 Pro pricing has taken into account tariff factors, which all help alleviate the pressure of price increase.
It is worth noting that Nintendo recently suspended pre-orders for the US Switch2 to assess the impact of tariffs. Although the release plan on June 5 has not changed, the price of the new model may face the risk of price increase.
