Capcom talks about "Resident Evil Requiem" landing on Switch 2: The transplant is smooth

　　The Capcom development team recently talked about "Resident Evil Requiem" which will be launched on Switch 2. They said they were impressed by the hardware of the new console and believed that "it was very logical."

Producer Masato Kumaze said in an interview with VGC: "We were surprised by the smoothness of the transplant. This made us feel that there was no need to wait until the main game was released before doing independent projects, but to bring the masterpiece directly to this hardware."

This is a major change for the Resident Evil series, because the orthodox sequel of the series has not been synchronized on the Nintendo platform for decades. Resident Evil 9: Requiem will be available on Switch 2 in February 2026 along with PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

Another developer, Nakashi Xi, added that Resident Evil 9: Requiem was developed using a "highly scalable approach". Although the performance of the Switch 2 is not as good as other high-end platforms, it still runs smoothly. "For host platforms and high-end PCs, the development of features including ray tracing is not difficult, and adding Switch 2 to this development system is just to expand to another performance level, not a particularly huge challenge."

At the same time, Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8: Village will also be simultaneously logged on Switch 2 with Resident Evil 9: Requiem in 2026.

　　Kumazawa further revealed that after getting the Switch 2 development machine, Capcom's first attempt was to run the native version of "Resident Evil 8: Village" on the hardware. After the test was successful, the team was confident that Resident Evil 9: Requiem was launched on Switch 2.

　"We think it is the most reasonable way to get these three games online at the same time. In this way, Switch 2 has gone from having no new works in the "Resident Evil" series to players being able to experience the last three works at one time. If you are a new player, you can start with "Resident Evil 7" and continue to play until the ninth part." Kumaze said.

　　In addition to the game, Sony is making a new Resident Evil movie, directed by director Zach Craig, which is expected to be released in September 2026.
