DC's "New Batman 2" is scheduled to be released in 2027! Filming officially started in January 2026
The filming plan for the sequel of "New Batman" was officially announced. Director Matt Reeves will start shooting "New Batman 2" in the UK on January 1, 2026, marking that the film has completed its preliminary preparations and entered the substantive shooting stage. The film is expected to be released in October 2027, more than five years have passed since the previous work was released.
The main reason for the delay in the video is that the script creation cycle is long. Reeves and co-screenwriter Mattson Tomlin repeatedly polished it and finally completed the script at the end of June. With the resolution of the script problem, the project progress has been significantly accelerated, and casting will be launched this fall.
Although the starring Robert Pattinson was expected to start filming at the end of 2025, the actual startup time was slightly delayed than the original plan. In addition to Pattinson, former starring Jeffrey White, Andy Serkins and Colin Ferrell are expected to return to the sequel, but the main villain lineup remains confidential. James Gunn, co-head of DC Pictures, recently denied the rumor that "silence" will be a villain.
As the sequel to the "Batman Epic Crime Legend" series independent of the DC universe, "New Batman 2" is called "extremely important" project to DC Studios by Gunn. Although the positioning of the Batman character in DCU is still a problem to be solved, Gunn supports the development of the "Another World" project, drawing on the narrative model of the comic parallel universe. Currently, the Batman movie "Hareless" of the DCU system is also under development.
