Work started so early? The development of "Cyberpunk 2077" began in 2023!

Jun 05 2025

Recently, Charles Tremblay, vice president of technology at CD Projekt Red, revealed the development details of the NS2 version of "Cyberpunk 2077" for the first time in an interview with IGN.

It is understood that the transplant project was officially launched in 2023, and Nintendo and CDPR launched a secret cooperation on the Switch 2 host that had not yet been released. It should be noted that unlike the first Switch "The Witcher 3" (transported by Saber Interactive), this development work is entirely led by the CDPR internal team to ensure the integrity of the technology and game content.

In terms of performance optimization, the NS2 version will provide a dual-mode operation solution:

Host mode: Performance mode achieves 1080p/40 frames, and quality mode is stable at 1080p/30 frames.

Hand mode: Performance mode is adjusted to 720p/40 frames, and quality mode is stable at 1080p/30 frames.

Tremblay pointed out that the development team sets 30 frames as the performance bottom line, eliminates any unstable frame rate, and gives full play to the advantages of Switch 2's DLSS technology to improve visual performance. In terms of game content, the NS2 version will fully include the game body and the "Shadow of the Past" expansion pack. All 64GB of game data are preloaded on the physical cassette, and only additional language pack content is required.
