Switch Online is in the process of major updates! GBA games support key customization
Nintendo Switch Online service has brought a number of feature upgrades to the Game Boy Advance game library in a recent update, including supporting key remapping for the first time. This is the latest improvement since the classic game library was systematically optimized since the summer of 2025.
Since GBA games landed in NSO in February 2023, Nintendo has continued to expand its game lineup on the platform. Although this update did not add new games in Europe and the United States (the "Magic Holiday" was added in Japan during the same period), it achieved two important functions: one is to support all GBA game button customization functions, and the other is to upgrade the handheld mode resolution - Switch 2 can now support 1080p full HD display (the original Switch still maintains 720p resolution). In addition, the "Switch Online" logo in the application launch screen has been uniformly changed to "Nintendo Classics".
The update also hides the interesting easter egg: when starting the application, push the left stick in any direction to trigger the original GBA boot screen and play the "Super Mario Advance" gold coin sound effect. The easter egg design is in line with the retro easter eggs that were previously used by GameCube.
This update not only optimizes the display effect of Switch 2 through 1080p resolution, but also uses the key remapping function to keep the GBA game library unified with other classic platforms. These changes mark Nintendo is setting up a new feature benchmark for its retro gaming library.
The 3.0.0 version update will be automatically downloaded when the host connects to the network. The new Magic Holiday in Japan is an RPG developed by Brownie Brown (now 1-Up Studio) in 2001, which supports local and online online through NSO. Although NSO has had regional exclusive games since 2018, this game may still be available in the European and American markets in the future.
