NS2 pre-order crisis! Walmart is caught in a "order cut" storm, orders are cancelled in batches

May 30 2025

As the release date of Nintendo's new generation console Switch 2 approaches, pre-order players who should have been immersed in anticipation have encountered unexpected twists and turns. Recently, consumers in many overseas places have concentrated feedback on social platforms that the completed Switch 2 pre-order order was unilaterally cancelled by the platform, among which retail giant Walmart became the hardest hit area, causing widespread doubts about retailers' overselling behavior.

According to statistics from the player community, canceled orders generally show two major characteristics: first, the payment process mostly uses credit card installment or third-party payment tools; second, the order cancellation volume of Walmart platform is significantly higher than other channels. Although Nintendo and retailers have not yet responded formally, the market generally speculated that the retail side has started pre-sale too early to seize the opportunity, but due to insufficient supply chain stocking or inventory management errors, the actual distributable goods are far lower than the predetermined quantity, and they are eventually forced to stop losses through "cutting orders".

Although the current storm is concentrated on overseas e-commerce platforms, domestic consumers should not take it lightly. Industry analysts pointed out that if global supply chain tension continues, domestic e-commerce channels may face similar pressure.

At present, Nintendo has not announced the specific stock volume of Switch 2, but emphasizes that it will work with retail partners to "make every effort to protect the rights and interests of players." For consumers, in the fierce stage of the host war, rational participation in pre-sales and maintaining information vigilance may be more important than buying.
