"Resident Evil 9" new protagonist has caused controversy, Uncle Party reveals the timeline dislocation
Capcom recently officially announced "Resident Evil 9", but the new protagonist setting has aroused heated discussion among players - this work will revolve around the "newcomer" Grace Ashcroft, whose identity is confirmed as the daughter of Alisa Ashcroft, the character of "Resident Evil 3". This casting immediately aroused doubts from core players: Since the daughter of Ethan has been portrayed in "Resident Evil 8" DLC "Shadow of Rose", why does the main sequel not mention her at all?
In response to the controversy, the well-known whistleblower Dusk Golem gives a key timeline interpretation: The story of "Resident Evil 9" is set in 2026, while "Shadow of Rose" takes place in 2037 (i.e. 11 years after the plot of "Resident Evil 8"). This means that when the main line of "Resident Evil 9" unfolded, Rose was only 5 years old and had not yet grown into a character who could participate in the main plot. This setting cleverly avoids the stubborn trouble of the series of timelines, but also implies that this game will focus on the protagonist group of a new generation.
Although Grace as a new face occupies the focus of publicity, Dusk Golem revealed that the actual game experience will be completely different: "Lyon is the real core of "Resident Evil 9", and players will operate him for a long time far more than Grace." This echoes the significant exposure of Lyon in the trailer, or implies that the game will adopt a dual-protagonist narrative structure, similar to the multi-line parallel mode of "Resident Evil 6".
In response to players' complaints about "new works only after 2-3 years", Dusk Golem has put forward a more radical prediction: starting from 2026, Capcom may launch new works in the "Resident Evil" series every year for three consecutive years. If this strategic transformation comes true, it will break the three-year cycle pattern maintained by the series since Resident Evil 7 and turn to an annualized operation model similar to Monster Hunter.
Combining this information, Capcom's layout has gradually become clear: the generational alternation is completed through "Resident Evil 9", introducing new generation characters such as Grace to take over classic IPs, and retaining veterans such as Lyon to ensure the basic fan base. Rose's absence may be laying the groundwork for "Resident Evil 10" and even the works of the circumcision - when the timeline advances to the 2030s, Rose as an adult may open a new chapter in Resident Evil belonging to Generation Z.
