PS6 may be released in advance! Rumor will be scheduled for 2027: Is the performance improvement high?
According to the latest industry report, the R&D process of Sony's next-generation game console PlayStation 6 is accelerating, and its release time may be earlier than market expectations.
The current generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S were launched in November 2020 and have been close to a five-year life cycle. According to the gaming console industry practice, a complete generation cycle is usually seven to eight years.
It should be noted that due to the impact of the global epidemic, the market popularity of this generation of hosts has been delayed. Supply chain issues have led to a large number of players not being able to purchase new consoles until 2022. This also makes the industry generally believe that the performance potential of current generation consoles has not been fully released, and the upcoming masterpieces such as "GTA6" are expected to become benchmark works for this generation of hardware strength.
However, according to industry news, host manufacturers have begun to plan for the next generation of products. Microsoft has begun to discuss next-generation consoles, while Sony has officially confirmed the R&D plan for PS6. An internal AMD document disclosed by YouTube's well-known technology channel "Moore's Law Is Dead" shows that the PS6 may be released from fall 2027 to early 2028, and the long-rumored PS6 handheld device may be launched during the same period.
According to Sony's previous product release pace, the PlayStation series hosts are usually selected to be launched around November each year. The document states that Sony plans to start mass production of PS6 in the first half of 2027 to ensure supply demand during the peak sales season at the end of the year.
Although the information comes from AMD's outdated documents, sources stressed that Sony has always strictly followed the roadmap provided by its technology partners in hardware research and development. Other analysis pointed out that the performance improvement of PS6 may be relatively conservative, with only a slight upgrade compared to PS5 Pro. This strategy aims to control the cost of the whole machine and stabilize the retail price in the range of US$500 to maintain the market competitiveness of the product.
