"DayZ" Desert DLC "Badlands" is released next year. The largest official map!
The well-known survival game "DayZ" will launch a new large-scale expansion pack "Badlands" in 2026. It was announced by developer Bohemia Interactive that this update will bring about a desert-like Nasdara province and a lot of new challenges.
The official pointed out that "Badlands" will import "the largest official map in the history of the game" with a range of 267 square kilometers. This desert is not only an endless dry wasteland, but also a variety of landforms, such as abandoned towns, broken oil fields and post-war ruins, thus building a narrative depth of the apocalyptic world.
The new environment is also accompanied by an exclusive survival mechanism. Players must pay close attention to their body temperature to avoid sun exposure to maintain survival; what is more severe is the emergence of infected variants that are mutated due to extreme climates, which adds more threatening to the exploration process.
The development team said that "Badlands" will focus on "player-driven narratives", encourage players to establish factions and uncover forgotten secrets in the dust. Bohemia Interactive stressed: "We hope to use DayZ Badlands to expand the definition of survival in the DayZ universe, allowing players to write their own desert story between the scorched earth city and the quiet sand sea."
This expansion pack is in a strong contrast with the previous work "Frostline", which has a background of an extremely cold winter, while "Badlands" turns to a hot desert. More details about the exact launch date and play still need to be further announced by the official.
