Europe and the United States love pirates so much! "Royal 8 Legend" overseas sales surpassed Japan for the first time
"Roo-Royal 8: Pirates of Hawaii" has been on the market for three months, and the game's online player data and Sega's financial statements show that it performs well. Recently, RGG Studio Director Masao Yokoyama shared more details about the game's performance.
In an interview with foreign media Denfaminicogamer, Yokoyama revealed that "Royal 8: Pirates of Hawaii" is particularly popular in Europe, and unlike other works in the series, this work even sold more overseas than Japan.
Last year, RGG Studio celebrated "Royal 8" as the fastest-selling work in the series. Yokoyama mentioned the strong performance of the game in Japan at that time and pointed out: "This game performed very strongly in Japan, and the sales in other parts of Asia were also good, but Japan's momentum was even stronger." When "Royal 7 Story" was released, the developer also said that domestic sales were "shocking", showing that the popularity of the series in Japan has increased again.
However, "Royal 8" seems to have changed this trend, especially in Hawaii, Europe and the UK, sales have become its main contributor. Yokoyama said: "I'm not sure if it's the influence of pirate culture, but this game sells especially well in the UK. While we didn't plan to make a pure pirate game, we made it as a side story of the Dragon series, players seem to see it as a pirate-type game and appreciate it very much."
When producing "Rulong 8" , RGG Studio tried many mechanisms that had not been involved in before. These new attempts and positive feedback made developers realize the importance of continuous innovation. Yokoyama pointed out: "In this sense, this game may have a profound impact on our future projects."
While "Hawaii Pirates" has not yet become a global blockbuster, it "greatly expands our creative space, although it also faces the risk of becoming a huge failure." Yokoyama concluded: "I think this is a major success
