The auction price of the first-generation original iPod is as high as 589,000 yuan! It's 100 times more
Recently, RR Auction Auction announced that it would be auctioned for an unopened first-generation iPod (including 25% of the buyer's commission) for US$40,264 (about RMB 289,000), setting a new auction price high, exceeding the $29,000 auction in 2023. The first iPod was released by Steve Jobs in October 2001 and was sold at US$399 when it was launched (current exchange rate is approximately RMB 2,865).
In the same auction, an unopened 4GB storage version of the first generation iPhone (a rarer than the common 8GB version) was sold for US$81,989 (the current exchange rate is approximately RMB 589,000). The model was priced at $499 when it was first launched in 2007.
At that time, Apple had just experienced the financial crisis in the late 1990s, and the launch of the iPod helped the company get out of the predicament. Jobs described it as "holding 1,000 songs in his pocket" at the press conference and took out the equipment from his pocket to display it. He said: "iPod has created a new category of digital music players, allowing you to listen to all music anytime, anywhere, and forever change the way people listen to music."
