Nintendo Switch2 is officially announced: Supports 4K/60fps and will be released on June 5th!
Nintendo's new generation console, Nintendo Switch 2, was officially announced. The console will be available for the first time of $449 (about RMB 3,279), and will be released in Japan and North America on June 5, 2025.
Switch2 configuration information:
Screen
Switch 2 will use a 7.9-inch wide color gamut LCA screen with a resolution of 1080p (1920x1080). This is a significant improvement over the 6.2-inch screen of the original Switch, the 7-inch screen of the Switch OLED and the 5.5-inch screen of the Switch Lite.
Dock mode supports 4K/60fps or 1080P/120fps output
After Switch 2 is inserted into its new dock, the game can be 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, 60fps frame rate, or 1080p/1440p (1920x1080/2560x1440) resolution, 120fps frame rate.
Battery
Switch2 has a built-in 5220mAh lithium-ion battery, which is expected to provide about 2 to 6.5 hours of gaming time, and it takes about 3 hours to fully charge in sleep mode.
Nintendo reminds that these are "roughly estimated" and that "battery life will vary depending on the game you play." This battery life is basically the same as the first-generation Switch model (battery life of 2.5-6.5 hours). However, compared with the three Switch models that have been updated in the future, the Switch 2 has shortened its battery life: Switch battery life (4.5-9 hours), Switch OLED version (4.5-9 hours), and Switch Lite (3-7 hours).
Size and Weight
In terms of size and weight, the Switch 2 with Joy-Con2 installed is about 4.5 inches tall x 10.7 inches long x 0.55 inches thick. When Joy-Con2 is not included, it weighs about 0.88 pounds and is about 1.18 pounds after installation.
The weight of the Switch 2 (including Joy-Con2) is exactly the same as the current Switch 1 model (including Joy-Con), but it is taller and longer than all current models with Joy-Con installed.
Specific comparison:
Switch 2: 4.5 inches high x 10.7 inches x 0.55 inches / weight 1.18 pounds (including Joy-Con2)
Switch: 4 inches high x 9.5 inches x 0.55 inches / weight 0.88 pounds (including Joy-Con)
Switch OLED: 4 inches high x 9.5 inches x 0.55 inches / weight 0.93 pounds (including Joy-Con)
Switch Lite: 3.6 inches high x 8.2 inches x 0.55 inches / weight 0.61 pounds
Follower
Officially has not confirmed whether the Hall effect rocker has been used. This technology promises to solve the rocker drift problem that plagues many Switch users. While a 2023 patent has hinted that a Hall stick might be used, we still have to wait for the exact news.
Audio
In terms of audio, Switch2 supports linear PCM 5.1 channel output. If you want surround sound effects, after a future system update, you can enable (analog) surround sound through headphones or built-in speakers.
Storage
Switch 2 has built-in 256GB of storage space, which is significantly improved compared to the 32GB of the first generation Switch and Switch Lite and the 64GB of the Switch OLED version. Another important change is that Switch2 requires storage expansion using a microSD Express card (up to 2TB), which means that the microSD XC card used by the current Switch model will be incompatible with the new host and cannot be transferred directly.
Other
Switch 2 supports wireless LAN (Wi-Fi6)
Equipped with 2 USB-C ports
A 3.5mm four-segment stereo mini jack (CTIA standard)
A built-in mono microphone that supports noise cancellation, echo cancellation and automatic gain control
