Recently, Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau, a Belgian player from the FlyQuest team, aroused dissatisfaction among netizens for making controversial remarks during the live broadcast. In a live broadcast in early September, Bwipo claimed that women "are not suitable to participate in competitive events" during their menstrual periods, and suggested that female players should "rest or review the competition" during this period, believing that their physiological state will affect their competitive performance.

Although Bwipo argued that he "had no intention to discriminate", the remarks were spread rapidly on social media and were strongly opposed. The well-known e-sports host Sjokz refuted this statement on TikTok, emphasizing that women are still competent for high-stress work such as sports and medical care during menstruation, but they are questioned that they cannot play a game of League of Legends competition."

As public opinion fermented, the FlyQuest club initially stated that it only "handled this matter" on Discord, but it caused further dissatisfaction due to restrictions on player discussion. Finally, FlyQuest issued an official statement on September 9, announcing that it would suspend Bwipo's next LTA playoff game and donate some of its recent bonuses to public welfare organizations that support women's e-sports.

  The statement emphasizes:

"Bwipo's gender-discriminatory remarks violate FlyQuest's core values. Any remarks that hinder women's pursuit of their e-sports dreams will harm the future of the industry, and we attach great importance to this."

It is worth noting that Bwipo has been involved in public opinion controversy many times because of emotional remarks in live broadcasts and sharp criticisms of other contestants.
