Sony responds to controversial remarks from the developer of "Sheep Tie Mountain": The employee involved has been fired

With the PlayStation 5 exclusive game "Ghost of Yōtei" coming soon, the YouTube comment section of each of its new trailers has been in heated debate recently. The source of the controversy was that an employee of developer Sucker Punch Productions made inappropriate jokes on social media about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Sony has confirmed that the employee has been fired after being under public pressure, but declined to comment further. Recently, studio head and co-founder Brian Fleming directly responded to the firing for the first time in an interview.

It is reported that Sucker Punch's art designer Drew Harrison has worked in the studio for nearly ten years. On the day of Charlie Kirk's assassination, she posted a message saying, "I hope the assaulter is named Mario, so that Luigi will know that his brother has stood up for him." In less than 24 hours, she confirmed to the public that she had been fired. A Sony spokesman told the media at that time: "Drew Harrison no longer serves as an employee of Sucker Punch Productions."

Fleming responded in an interview: "The facts are accurate, Drew has indeed left us. As a studio, we unanimously believe that celebrating or understatement of the murder of others has touched our bottom line. This is unwilling to be tolerated, and we clearly condemn it. This is the studio's position and our current attitude."

Although Harrison was quickly fired, under the continuous promotion of opinion leaders such as "Grummz" Mark Kern, some netizens still asked Sony to take measures against any employees who have liked or reposted their remarks, and pointed the finger at other companies and employees who may have so-called "anti-Kirke sentiment." Bethesda was also involved in the storm - in the "Raiders of the Lost Ark: Ancient Circle" game clip, the protagonist said to a kitten, "You don't care much about these fascists, right?", and was later accused of alluding to the supporter of the right-wing podcaster, which has been deleted.

Microsoft game department employees have also become targets of public opinion attacks, and Elon Musk also participated in the related discussions. On September 12, Microsoft responded: "We have noticed the views expressed by some employees on recent events. We attach great importance to this situation and are currently reviewing them one by one. Remarks that cheer for violence against anyone are unacceptable and do not match our values." When asked whether any employees were fired for the investigation, a Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment.

Harrison posted this week: "Sucker Punch is an excellent studio and one of the few respectable places in the gaming industry. I still support them and do not recognize any hostility towards them. There are really the best people there."
