"Doom: Dark Ages" abandons multiplayer mode. Focusing on single players has hidden feelings?

Doom fans are looking forward to the release of "DOOM: The Dark Ages". As the latest sequel to this classic series, the game's story unfolds in the form of a previous story, with a timeline that was well ahead of the events told in the 2016 rebooted version of Doom. However, players need to note that this game will not contain any multiplayer content.

Although id Software is still pushing forward the development of this game, they have made it clear that they will not join the multiplayer mode. Game Director Hugo Martin revealed in an interview with GamesRadar that the team made a decision at the beginning of the project to focus on creating a pure single-player gaming experience so as to concentrate all resources and present the most exciting campaign mode for players.

"In the process of developing Doom: Dark Age, we considered adding the mecha element. This project had a larger plan, but when we started to allocate resources and consider developing a multiplayer mode, the situation became complicated. Nowadays, players have extremely high expectations for a ‘real-time service game’, requiring that the game be perfect and must not be perfunctory. This will inevitably sacrifice the quality of a single-player campaign. Therefore, we believe that it is wise to focus on making Doom: Dark Age into a purely single-player experience rather than forcibly transforming into a service game."

Recalling the previous work "Doom: Eternal", Hugo admitted that some ideas were ultimately not realized. Because if the integrity of the campaign mode and the development of a multiplayer mode are to be ensured at the same time, the scale of the project will exceed the controllable range.

As shown in "Doom: Eternal", the game content will be richer and more fulfilling when the team devotes itself to the campaign design.
