"Resident Evil 9" returns to the main story: Focus on the umbrella company again!

　　Recently, Capcom confirmed on the PlayStation official blog that "Resident Evil 9" will become an important milestone for the 30th anniversary of the series. The new work not only sets the story back to the familiar "raccoon city" that players are familiar with, but will also once again focus on the core plot that has run through the entire series since the first generation - the mysterious and evil "umbrella company".

Since the release of "Resident Evil 7" in 2017 and "Resident Evil 8" in 2021, the series has turned to the story of the "Winters Family" and independent events. Although it has achieved dual success in reputation and sales, it has also alienated the main plot and classic characters of the series. This time, "Requiem" will lead players back to the main story and continue the grand narrative of the series.

　　Game producer Kumazawa said: "Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8 have expanded the worldview of the series, while Resident Evil 9 hopes to return to the main plot rooted in Raccoon City and conspiracy around the Umbrella Company." He also added that as the series celebrates its 30th anniversary, Raccoon City will be the stage that best fits this theme.

In addition, Requiem will introduce a new protagonist - Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of the protagonist Alyssa Ashcroft in the spin-off "Resident Evil: Breaking". After the destruction of Raccoon City, Grace's personal destiny was closely linked to the city, bringing new emotional motivation to the plot of this work.

　　　Kumazawa said: "We want to introduce a character that is closely related to the fate of the city. Grace is different from traditional protagonists such as Lyon or Chris. She is closer to ordinary people and will feel fear and panic in emergencies, which makes her the best choice to return to the origin of horror."
