Break through the million signature mark! The "Stop Kill Game" petition has not really succeeded yet

Jul 04 2025

The EU's "Stop Killing Games" petition broke through the million signature mark a few hours ago. This consumer rights campaign, triggered by Ubisoft's "Current Car God" suspension on April 1, 2024, was initiated by game blogger Ross Scott, aims to promote legislation prohibiting publishers from termination of online service game operations without permission in the absence of follow-up plans.

Just a few days ago, this movement was on the verge of failure. In a video titled "The End of the Stop Killing Game", Scott admitted that after months of hard work but hitting a wall everywhere, he could only pin his hopes on submitting a petition to the British Parliament or the European Commission - both of which require 100,000 (UK) and 1 million (EU) citizens to enter the legislative discussion. Based on the progress at that time, Scott believed that it was almost impossible to achieve the goal.

The turning point occurred after the release of the petition video on June 23, with the number of signatures soaring from 500,000 to 800,000. Boosted by traditional media and opinion leaders such as MoistCr1tikal, the petition exceeded the million threshold nearly a month ahead of schedule. It is worth noting that since the petition was launched on July 31, 2024, it took 11 months to collect 500,000 signatures, and the last 500,000 was completed in just 10 days.

However, the movement has not been truly successful yet. After the petition deadline (July 31), all signatures must be verified by EU citizenship, and duplicate or non-EU signatures will be removed. To reach 1.4 million signatures, it is only possible to ensure verification and submit it to the EU Parliament for consideration. Compared with the unsuccessful British petition, the EU legislature is more highly anticipated - it has repeatedly intervened in the gaming industry disputes and safeguarded consumer rights, and the global influence of EU regulations may drive industry-wide change. The signature channel is still open until July 31, and sports supporters are fighting for the final sprint.
