Since the release of Assassins Creed Shadows, a black protagonist, has caused a lot of controversy. Recently, the game's creative director Jonathan Dumont said in an interview with foreign media Gamereactor that the criticism that Mikasuke encountered was "expected" by the team.

Jonathan said: "We expected a lot of controversy, but we still think that Yasuke is a great character in the Assassin's Creed universe." He added, "Besides playing completely differently from Naoe's gameplay, Yasuke is also a very interesting historical figure. I don't want to spoil the story of Yasuke in the game, but as a character brought to Japan by a Portuguese missionary, he can become a bond between Japan and other countries."

Previously, when accepting the Japanese media GameWatch, Jonathan said: "The development team is exploring the culture and history of Japan every day, and always maintains the greatest respect. We develop "Assassin's Creed: Shadow" with a humble attitude, with the goal of creating a unique world view through the story, so that players can immerse themselves in the game and enjoy the world of Shadow."
