Light and Shadow: Expedition No. 33 is partly inspired by Studio Ghibli
Guillaume Broche, the creative director of "Light and Shadow: Expedition No. 33", recently interviewed by Giant Bomb, in which he revealed that the development of "Light and Shadow: Expedition No. 33" was inspired by Studio Ghibli's works.
Broche revealed: Studio members "watched about 25 times" Studio Ghibli's movie. Broche also said that the game's composer Lorien Testard also drew inspiration from the soundtracks of movies such as "Princess Ghost", "Tongkat" and "The Witch's Otaku", which were created by Joe Hashi.
When talking about the artistic style of "Light and Shadow: Expedition No. 33", Broche also talked about the development team's hope to capture the sense of adventure and wonder that is common in Studio Ghibli's works. He used films such as "Spirited Away" and "Hal's Moving Castle" as examples to illustrate the wonderful feeling that the studio pursues.
Broche said: "Our director is not very interested in Japanese culture, so every time he discusses this topic, he always brings more Western influences, and I try to introduce more oriental elements to him, which forms our strange mixed style."
"Light and Shadow: Expedition Team No. 33 is scheduled to be released on April 24. The game will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. It has become a highly anticipated piece, and the studio recently revealed that its gaming wishlist has exceeded 1 million.
The release date of this game also looks very stable, because the studio just announced last week that the game had entered the factory and was under pressure.
