Can't fail anymore! "Borderlands 4" theme "attracts new players"!
"Border Land 4" will be officially released soon. Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford said in an interview that this new work will become an "ideal entry-level choice for new players in the series"!
In an exclusive interview with "Rolling Stone", Pitchford emphasized that the development team's goal is to "not only give back to old players, but also absorb new players." As an orthodox sequel released after six years, "Borderlands 4" shoulders the important mission of lowering the entry barrier for potential new players. This strategic direction is also supported by historical data.
"For example, from Borderlands 2 to Borderlands 3, about one-third of our players have been in contact with this series for the first time," Pitchford explained, "so the new work must take into account two missions: to make new players accessible and retain the essence familiar to old players."
It should be noted that the box office of the movie adapted from "Borderlands" released in 2023 was a crushing defeat. According to the well-known media "Variety Show", the production cost of the film was as high as US$115 million, plus the marketing and distribution expenses of US$30 million, and the global box office was only US$33 million (data source: Box Office Mojo), resulting in a loss of approximately US$112 million (about RMB 803 million).
This commercial disaster obviously failed to bring new fans to the series as Gearbox wanted, and now the burden falls on the shoulders of "Borderlands 4".
Pictureford repeatedly reiterated in the interview: "Even if you have never played this series, this game is an excellent starting point."
