More than 420,000 European players jointly protest: Oppose the purchased game cannot be played after it is suspended
European citizens petition to "protect the sustainability of electronic games" has solicited more than 420,000 signatures and are currently steadily moving towards the million-dollar goal. The initiative was initiated by well-known gaming blogger Accursed Farms, aiming to deal with the increasingly prominent "server suspension" problem in the gaming industry.
The core demands of the initiative include: prohibiting publishers from remotely deactivating the game function, and requiring reasonable ways to not rely on publishers to allow the game to continue to operate.
The petition is mainly aimed at the player's rights dispute caused by the forced online verification of new works such as "Diablo 4".
It should be noted that the initiative does not require the game server to operate permanently, but seeks to protect the basic right to use the game that players have purchased after the developer terminates support. This demand directly points to the key issues in the protection of consumer rights under the current digital copyright management model. If the million-signature target is achieved, the European Commission will consider the issue in accordance with the law.
