How fast can 6G network speed be: Downloading 50GB takes only 1.4 seconds, 4K movies 1 second!
Recently, Keysight Technologies of the United States and NTT Innovative Devices of Japan jointly announced that it has successfully set a new world record for 6G wireless data transmission in the sub-THz frequency band.
Through the sub-terahertz band testing, the team successfully achieved a transmission rate of 280 Gbps, breaking the previous record of 240 Gbps set by the Osaka University team in 2024, reaching 28 times the 5G theoretical peak (10 Gbps). This transfer rate means that 50GB files can be downloaded in just 1.4 seconds, which is equivalent to 4K Blu-ray movies that can be transferred for 2 hours per second.
This technological breakthrough has laid the foundation for future 6G networks and is expected to support advanced applications such as real-time holographic communication, autonomous driving collaborative communication and city-level AI systems. Officials said that the relevant results will be officially released at the International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2025) held in San Francisco, USA on June 19.
