Epic responds to "Fortnite" asset abnormality deduction: It is a refund loophole recovery

Sep 08 2025

Recently, some players in "Fortnite" encountered the deduction of the game currency V-Bucks and appearance props for no reason, and Epic Games officially explained this a few days ago. As a free game, Fortnite mainly sells V-Bucks currency for players to exchange pure appearance props that do not affect the balance of the game. This personalized dress-up system has become one of the core experiences of the game.

Many players recently reported that V-Bucks and appearance items in their accounts were abnormally reduced, and screenshots of system notifications showing specific deduction items were attached. Players who lost thousands of V-Bucks and dozens of appearances asked for an official explanation. Since most of the incidents occurred on the Xbox platform, players once thought it was a platform system failure.

Epic Games clarified through its official Twitter account @FortniteStatus: This deduction stems from a retrospective review of historical refund applications. From December 2024 to July 2025, there was a loophole in the V-Bucks refund function of X platform - although players can receive cash back after applying for a refund, the V-Bucks in the account have not been deducted accordingly. Some players used the vulnerability to repeat operations for more than 7 times, and even performed V-Bucks from reselling refunds, giving props to others, etc. In order to recover the losses, the official not only recovers the excess V-Bucks, but also deducts the corresponding value of appearance props when the account balance is insufficient.

Epic admitted that it is its responsibility to update the V-Bucks balance system immediately, so this time, only reimbursement will be carried out for accounts that have repeated operations more than 7 times. Most normal refund players may not have noticed the balance abnormality, so they are not affected by this adjustment.
