Comprehensive innovation! World of Warcraft's new expansion pack will cancel pet battle system
World of Warcraft will remove the pet battle system from the "Midnight" expansion pack and instead click to capture wild pets. Although players can still collect various pets, this battle gameplay that has lasted for thirteen years is about to withdraw from the stage of history. The pet battle system originated from the 2012 "Pandaman Mystery" version and is a mini game inspired by Pokémon. Players can capture wild pets, cultivate and upgrade through battles, and compete with NPCs or other players to obtain currency, achievements and experience values.
However, in the test version of World of Warcraft: Midnight, wild pets can no longer trigger the battle. Players only need to right-click on the creature to directly throw the cage to complete the capture. These pets cannot be upgraded or participated in the battle. Game content creator MrGM shared the new machine real-time video on social media.
In response to players' speculation that "the system has not been fully implemented", game director Ian Hazicostas confirmed in a group interview that the pets in the "Midnight" expansion will no longer have combat functions, because the proportion of players participating in this game continues to decline. One of the evidences is that the expansion pack-related achievements changed the pet to "wild pets", rather than following the previous title of "battle pets", and there is no battle-related achievements in the new area.
It should be noted that the existing pet battle system will not be removed, and all old pets, challenges and related content will be retained. However, in the future, all new pets will no longer be equipped with combat attributes and skills, which means that the system will stop content updates. As early as the "Karash" area of the 11.2 version of "Karash" was not available to collect the battle pets, some players had noticed the clues, and now worries finally became a reality.
The community has many speculations about Blizzard's motivation: it may be the helpless choice to adapt to the game's accelerated update pace, or it may be to avoid Nintendo's recently registered Pokémon-related patents. In any case, fans of the pet battle system may say goodbye to new content.
