After the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, some users found that the back panel behind the game console was bulging, suspected that it was caused by the bulge of the lithium battery inside.

A Reddit user Tombyt3 shared a photo of the bulging of its Switch 2 back panel in the NintendoSwitch sub-version area. The user said that the bulging part is very obvious and is more obvious when touched with his hands.

In addition, player Huntor27 also showed the situation of its Switch 2 back panel bulge, further confirming the existence of this problem.

Switch2 uses lithium batteries, which can cause bulging, including overcharging, deep discharge, exposure to high temperatures, internal short circuits, and battery aging.

As the deterioration of the chemical properties of the battery, gases such as carbon dioxide and other by-products will be produced. Since the battery is sealed, these gases cannot be discharged, causing the battery to expand and thus bulge the surrounding shell.

Nintendo said it had initiated an investigation into the issue and warned users not to try to press the bulging back plate back back to the device, as this could pierce or squeeze the battery, causing a fire or even an explosion.
