Less than seven years! The Anthem server will be closed on January 12, 2026

EA officially confirmed that it will officially close the "Anthem" game server on January 12, 2026. The third-person online collaborative shooter, developed by BioWare in 2019, marks a major attempt by the studio to move from a narrative-driven RPG that specializes in to an action game field. However, after a rough development cycle, "The Anthem" was released only received mediocre reviews and quickly lost the player group.

Although BioWare tried to save this work through the "Rebirth Plan", it had little effect. After the official announcement of the termination of major content updates in 2021, the game has essentially entered a maintenance state. EA recently disclosed data shows that the company has shut down 61 games online services in the past two years, and "Anthem" will be the latest member of this growing list.

As a purely online service game, the shutdown of the server means that "The Anthem" will completely withdraw from the stage of history. Currently, EA has stopped selling in-game currency, but players can still use the remaining currency in their account before January 12, 2026. According to industry analysts, this "mecha version fate" that was once highly anticipated was finally maintained for less than seven years' operation cycle, becoming one of the most eye-catching failures of EA in recent years.
