"Borderlands 4" global reservations are open! CEO promises absolute value for money

　　Recently, "Borderlands 4" officially opened global reservations and announced that it will be officially released on September 12. The game's national pricing continues the traditional "real fragrance" strategy of the series: the standard version is only sold for 298 yuan, the luxury version is 428 yuan, and the super luxury version is 558 yuan, making it the lowest-priced area in the world. In contrast, the overseas standard version is generally priced at US$70 (about RMB 505), and domestic players are just calling them "winning".

In the latest episode of "Dev Dive", Randy Pitchford, founder and CEO of Gearbox Studio, admitted that he understood players' resistance to high-priced games of $70-80. He recalled: "When I was young, I also saved money to buy a favorite game, and I knew the impact of pricing on players. But the $70 price in Borderlands 4 is definitely worth its quality."

Pitchford further explained that players are more sensitive to the pricing of high-attention games, but this anxiety will dissipate with the game experience: "When you really enter the game world, you will find that it is worth much more than the price."

　　In response to players' concerns about "service-based games" and micro-transactions, Pitchford made it clear that "Borderlands 4" will return to the tradition of the series and refuse the "continuous operation" and "paid unboxing" model.

　　"This is a one-time premium game," he stressed, "we won't use micro-transactions or service-oriented content to attract appetite. Players will get complete and complete products after purchasing. DLCs may be launched in the future, but that is extra content for players who want to experience in depth, not forced consumption."

　　Pitchford defines Borderlands 4 as a "orthodox sequel to all-out efforts" and confidently declares: "No matter the price, as long as players experience it, they will feel that its value is far beyond the pricing. The game's content is amazing and players will be satisfied."

Although the domestic low-price strategy has won the favor of players, the overseas pricing of $70 still triggers discussion. Some players believe that in the context of rising inflation and development costs, it is understandable to raise prices reasonably; while others are worried that if high-priced games become the norm, they may accelerate the loss of players.
