"Bad Gate 3" Director Refutes the Death of Single-player: Single-player games need to be excellent enough
Recently, Swin Wenke, director of Baldur Gate 3 and head of Larion Studio, expressed his views on the "death theory of stand-alone game games".
"Single-player game extinction theory" has been circulating in the gaming industry for more than ten years. Since multiplayer online service games have shown profitability far exceeding traditional 3A stand-alone games, people have begun to worry that publishers will abandon stand-alone games in order to pursue profits.
In fact, this concern has come true to a certain extent. Publishers such as Sony and EA have tried to transform into service-oriented games, but the results are both good and bad. EA has gained a lot with the "EA FC" series, while Sony's exploration in this area has not been smooth.
"It's time for everyone to claim that large stand-alone games are about to die." Wenke posted on social media, "Play your imagination to the fullest. Stand-alone games are not dead, they just need to be excellent enough." Larion Studio has always focused on the development of stand-alone RPG games, and its representative works cover the "God Realm" series and "Bad Gate 3".
"Body's Gate 3" can be regarded as a model of success in a single-player game. It has won many game awards for many years and has also set an amazing record of more than 875,000 players online at the same time on the Steam platform. At present, Larion Studio is still continuing to update the game, and the upcoming patch No. 8 will add cross-platform online, photo mode and multiple new sub-professions to the game.
