Japan’s largest second-hand platform coal stove has new regulations! Crack down on reselling of NS2 and other products

Oct 10 2025

According to Kyodo News, Japan's largest second-hand trading platform Mercari (often called "Coal Stove" in China) has recently introduced new regulations to combat commodity reselling, explicitly prohibiting the sale of some overheated, dispute-prone, and inflated-priced products. Among them, popular products such as Switch 2 are included in the scope of restrictions.

Previously, although Mercari has launched a number of measures to curb malicious reselling, the results have not been ideal. This new regulation focuses on strengthening the review of products on the shelves, especially those products with abnormally high prices, frequent disputes, and overly popular products, such as Switch 2, Pokémon cards, and McDonald's Happy Meal peripherals, which the official specifically pointed out are among the restrictions.
