What! The new Star Wars is a chess game! Or did it rebirth?
Respawn Entertainment Studio, a subsidiary of EA, has always been famous for its shooting games. The "Titanfall 2" and "Apex Heroes" developed are both popular among players. Recently, it was revealed that Respawn will cooperate with Bit Reactor Studio, a former "XCOM" developer, to announce a new war chess game with "Star Wars" theme on the 19th of next month.
According to foreign media reports, this Star Wars chess game developed by Respawn and Bit Reactor will be officially announced at the Star Wars celebration event held in Tokyo on the 19th of next month. This game in development has appeared in the collection of works by Bit Reactor artists.
The reason I chose to develop war chess games over shooters that Respawn is good at is likely because there are a large number of former employees from Firaxis Games, a developer of XCOM and Civilizations.
From the currently leaked development screenshots in 2023, this new Star Wars work code-named "Bruno" will use a gameplay similar to "XCOM". Players need to command their own squads and use equipment and weapons to fight the Imperial Stormtrooper.
The game also includes a base system where players can change team equipment and choose to perform tasks. The screenshot shows that the development team was still testing different styles of UI interfaces at the time. More details will be announced at the Tokyo Star Wars celebration on next month on 19th.
