Official explanation of the reason why Star Wars: Outlaws NS2 version uses Key card

Sep 05 2025

The Switch2 version of "Star Wars: Outlaw" is now available, using Nintendo's latest exclusive Key card solution. Players need to obtain the game's main body through digital downloads. In response to the controversy over the failure to use traditional physical cassettes, the official recently disclosed the technical information.

Ubisoft Snowdrop engine engineer Rob Bantin explained the basis for technical decision-making in detail: The open world built on this work is highly dependent on disk data flow technology, while traditional cassette media cannot meet its quality performance indicators and is difficult to achieve the best effect.

The development team established a technical benchmark with SSD as the core in the early stages of the project. The Switch2 version chose the Key card form, which is the adaptive decision made by the publisher based on hardware characteristics to ensure that the game meets design expectations in terms of performance and experience.
