Legends of Runeterra is a collectible card game that's similar to Hearthstone... but set in Runeterra, the popular League of Legends universe. Like most CCGs, your mission is to battle your opponent until they have no life points left.

Although Legends of Runeterra has a gameplay that's similar to other CCGs, a few key features are different. Each turn, you'll receive a manna point that you can use to play cards, which can contain either a creature or a spell. As you might expect, the spells take effect imminently, while the creatures have to be deployed on the battlefield.

But as the turns are played, the gameplay of Legends of Runeterra starts to differ from that of Hearthstone. During each turn, one player attacks and the other defends. Typically the attacker plays creatures and the defender tries to block them, but like Magic: the Gathering, both players can cast spells at this time.

Another unique feature of Legends of Runeterra is that, as well as the normal creature and spell cards, there are also twenty different hero cards. Each hero is inspired by an LoL character and has unique powers. Learning to use each one wisely will greatly improve your chances of winning.

Legends of Runeterra is an excellent CCG that offers an intriguing alternative to the aforementioned games Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering. It's yet another outstanding title from Riot Games.

Legends of Runeterra (LoR) is a free-to-play digital collectible card game developed and published by Riot Games. It's set in the world of Runeterra, the same universe as League of Legends, featuring familiar champions, characters, and locations. Unlike many other card games, LoR emphasizes strategic interaction and player agency during combat, making it a more dynamic and engaging experience. Each player starts with a Nexus that has 20 health, and the goal is to reduce the opponent's Nexus to zero. Players build decks of 40 cards, drawing from a selection of champion cards, follower cards, and spell cards, each with unique abilities and mana costs. Champion cards can level up during a match by meeting specific conditions, becoming more powerful and potentially game-winning.

The game's core mechanic revolves around alternating attack and defense rounds. One player is the attacker, deploying units to strike the opponent's Nexus, while the defender assigns blockers to intercept the attacks. Crucially, the defending player can also use spells to disrupt the attacker's strategy. This back-and-forth dynamic creates a constant push and pull, requiring players to carefully consider their plays and anticipate their opponent's moves. Mana, a resource that replenishes each round, is used to play cards. Unspent mana can be stored as spell mana, allowing players to cast more expensive spells later. Regions play a significant role in deckbuilding. Players can choose two regions, each offering a unique set of cards and playstyles. This allows for a wide variety of deck archetypes, from aggressive "aggro" decks that aim to quickly overwhelm the opponent, to controlling "control" decks that focus on stalling the game and outlasting the opponent, and midrange decks that strike a balance between the two. Legends of Runeterra distinguishes itself through its emphasis on interactive gameplay, diverse deckbuilding options, and a generous reward system, making it a compelling choice for both casual and competitive card game players.
