A digital beaded board for children to practise several learning goals. This beaded board is not meant to improve children’s motorics, but to stimulate creativity and practising hand-eye coordination.
In this application children can recreate several patterns with virtual beads. There are round and squared boards. Apart for the recreating, they can also design their own board. It is possible to share the beaded boards with other people. Of course it is possible to switch this feature off if this feature is not desired in class.
In the settings menu, you can set your preferences for the app. You can switch the sounds on and off, enable/disable the share functionality and get to know Meester Dennis.
I would like to emphasize that this application is not for improving children’s motorics. If this is desired, then I advise to use a real beaded board, such that the children can feel the beads in their hands.
Beaded Board, also known as Peg Solitaire, is a classic one-person game played on a board with holes or indentations, most commonly in a cross shape, though other shapes like triangles or squares exist. Each hole, except for one initially left empty, contains a peg or bead. The objective of the game is to remove all pegs except for one, which should ideally end up in the center hole (or a designated target hole).
The core mechanic involves jumping one peg over an adjacent peg into an empty hole, removing the peg that was jumped over in the process. Moves are always horizontal or vertical; diagonal jumps are not allowed. Strategy revolves around planning a sequence of jumps that efficiently eliminates pegs while avoiding being left with isolated pegs that cannot be jumped. The game requires logical thinking, spatial reasoning, and foresight to anticipate future board states.
Success in Beaded Board depends on careful planning and understanding of the board's geometry. Players often start by analyzing possible sequences of jumps from different areas of the board. A common strategy is to try to create "chains" of jumps that eliminate multiple pegs in a row. Another tactic is to maintain symmetry on the board as much as possible, which can help to avoid dead ends. The game provides a satisfying challenge as it demands careful consideration of each move to achieve the optimal solution.
