Follow the example of Call of Duty! EA hopes Battlefield will become the game of the year
According to the latest news from industry analyst Michael Pachter, EA is planning to make strategic adjustments to the Battlefield series, with the goal of achieving annual operations through the rotation of three studios and aligning with Call of Duty. However, this vision is expected to take 5-6 years to fully implement.
In recent years, the pace of the "Battlefield" series has slowed down significantly - three years apart from "Battlefield 5" (2018) to "Battlefield 2042" (2021), and the upcoming "Battlefield 6" will set a four-year development cycle in the series. Pachter revealed the content of his conversation with Byron Beede, general manager of Battlefield: "They plan to form three studios, each performing a three-year development cycle, and ultimately achieving annual iterations." But the analyst emphasized that players need to wait at least two generations of works before they can see the mechanism fully function.
Although the current beta version of "Battlefield 6" has caused some controversy due to issues such as the size of the map, the reputation collapse of "2042" has shown obvious signs of recovery. Industry observers pointed out that although the New Year’s cargo strategy can guarantee commercial returns, it also faces the risk of creative exhaustion. EA's layout is obviously intended to revive the IP that once competed with Call of Duty, but whether it can ultimately avoid "New Year's goods fatigue" will depend on the execution capabilities and innovation reserves of collaborative development of multiple studios.
