Choi Ji-yuan, director of "Pinocchio's Lies": Create a unique soul-like game style
The latest DLC of the soul-like action role-playing game "Lies of Pinocchio" is in a intensive development stage. Recently, the game director Choi Ji-yuan was interviewed by foreign media "GamesRadar+" while attending the GDC 2025 event. In the interview, Cui Zhiyuan emphasized that the soul-like game he created strives to have a unique style.
Choi Ji-won admitted: "I am a loyal fan of Bloodborne Curse, and this game is very attractive. At the same time, I am also a big fan of FromSoftware. However, I will not say that I am inspired by a specific game. I love many types of games. From those games I love, I have gained a variety of experiences and inspirations and incorporated them into "Pinocchio's Lies". In the end, the experience presented by "Pinocchio's Lies" is a fusion of different inspirations I draw from many favorite games, and I am committed to transforming it into a game experience that is now created for fans of "Pinocchio's Lies"."
In addition, Cui Zhiyuan also said that he never thinks that making games requires following a certain fixed pattern. He said: "We have never deliberately copied something or some games. In fact, I am more concerned about how to use the game elements we love to tell the stories we create best. We have always adhered to this concept. Once we find the most effective way of telling the story during the development process, the game is done."
"We have never had the idea of 'to follow a certain pattern'. So, when we work with all the inspiration and love for many different games, in order to better integrate these elements into the storyline, we believe we are shaping a unique gaming experience. Of course, in addition to that, we will continue to collect feedback from users around the world. This is actually the routine operation in our creation process. Therefore, in the future, I promise that I will be free to say nothing, and our focus is on creating our own game style, which will also become a natural result of the entire creation process."
