The orthodoxy of the "Silent Hill F" series has caused controversy! What is the connection between the world view and Silent Hill?

The new orthodox work of the "Silent Hill" series has been widely controversial for its "orthodox" since its release. This new work, developed by NeoBards and written by Japanese writer Dragon Knight 07, uses the theme of Japanese gentleness. While continuing the classic horror atmosphere, its multi-faceted innovative breakthroughs also challenge players' inherent understanding of the series.

The game has gained widespread recognition in creating a core horror atmosphere. The foggy Rong Qiu continues the series' iconic sense of isolation and unknown fear, and the monster design and environmental narrative reflect the inheritance of classic elements. However, the innovation of the combat system has become the primary controversial point: the introduction of physical strength bars, dodge and parry mechanisms has made the combat experience more similar to modern action games. During the game, it is even mandatory to constantly fight with the resurrected enemy during the puzzle solving process, and the traditional "Silent Hill" focuses on "fighting or flight" selective gameplay.

The more core controversy lies in the lack of connection between the game and the series' worldview. Most of the previous series of works are based on Silent Hill as the narrative center, but the Japanese backstory of "Silent Hill F" does not provide a substantial connection with the main plot. Although the multi-week game unlocks additional plots, this narrative arrangement has been criticized as "forced repetition".

In addition, the series' iconic "monster reflects the psychology of the protagonist" setting is weakened in this game, and the enemy's design and the protagonist Hinako's personal experience lack deep connection, which also makes some old players feel regretful.

After the "Silent Hill" series has gone through thirteen years of blank periods, "Silent Hill" f" carries the heavy responsibility of restarting. Some believe that its bold innovations in the series will help attract new players; but there are concerns that overly independent narrative and cultural specificity may lead to work being marginalized over time, like Resident Evil 7. This controversy essentially reflects the difficult balance between innovation and inheritance of classic IP, and the ultimate historical status of "Silent Hill f" still needs to be tested by time.
