Will the rocker drift? Switch2 handle confirms that the Hall effect rocker is not used
Since its release in 2017, the rocker drift problem has always plagued the Nintendo Switch. The issue even sparked multiple class action lawsuits, with a former maintenance supervisor who said the workload of handling drift Joy-Con was "pressure."
Although Nintendo is definitely secretly improving this flaw for Switch2, it has been confirmed that the new generation of Joy-Con2 will not be equipped with Hall effect rocker technology. The news comes from an exclusive interview with Nintendolife's Nintendo executive Nate Bihldorff, who clearly ruled out this possibility. It is worth noting that he did not explain whether the Pro controller adopts this technology, but his attitude to quickly shift the topic may imply a negative answer:
Question: "Let's put aside the sensitivity topic for the time being and talk about Switch2 Joy-Con’s joystick – it feels very different from the original. Is this Hall-effect rocker? Are you inspired by this technology?” A: “The handles of the Joy-Con2 are completely new. They are not Hall-effect rocker, but they feel very good. Have you tried both versions of the Joy-Con and Pro? I personally like it, but when I first held the Pro, the feeling made me exclaim ‘This is simply GameCube handle’. As a GameCube player, that familiarity hits the face, especially the rocker part. We spent a lot of time ensuring its quietness – I don’t know if you shake the rocker hard, but it’s really quiet. It reminds me of the days when I played Nintendo Stars. Switch2 The Pro handle is one of the quietest handles I have ever used. ”
Bihldorff's statement about the silentness of the Pro handle was also echoed in the Nintendo developer interview. When talking about the Pro handle, Pro Hiroichi Kawamoto said: "The left and right rockers have been specially designed, and even if they are quickly pushed to the limit, they are almost silent. The sliding is extremely smooth, which we call internally "silk-sliding rockers."
Tako Sasaki, the general manager of development, also revealed that Nintendo has long been committed to creating the "peak of handle craftsmanship", but it has not clearly stated whether the Switch2 Pro handle has achieved this goal.
