Nintendo confirms that its first-party game works will not use the "Game Key Fold"

According to foreign media nintendolife, Nintendo's official official has made it clear that the first-party games on the Switch2 platform (i.e., games independently developed by Nintendo) currently have no plans to adopt the "key card" physical distribution method. However, this policy may only apply to Nintendo's self-developed games, and works developed by third-party manufacturers and published by Nintendo may still take this form.

Nintendo's US President Doug Bowser previously talked about the future of physical games in an interview with IGN: the wording of "Nintendo's self-developed game" means that third-party games released by Nintendo may still be in the form of physical "key cards". "

Since the announcement, the setting of the "Game Key Card" has been controversial. Although it is still a physical entity in form, the card does not store game data. Players need to download the complete content online before they can play.

Nevertheless, compared to some manufacturers directly adopting the "in-box redemption code" (which relies entirely on digital versions and cannot be traded second-hand), "key cards" are still regarded as a compromise solution, and at least retain the physical collection and part of the circulation functions.
