Feng Ji posted a long article about "Black Myth: Zhong Kui": I don't want to be bound by Wukong!
At the opening night of today's Cologne Game Exhibition, the new work of Game Science's series "Black Myth: Zhong Kui" was officially announced, and producer Feng Ji posted a long article on Weibo to talk about his thoughts.
Feng Ji said that after the release of "Black Myth: Wukong", he experienced a period of confusion, but he realized that happiness was short-lived and negative emotions were inevitable. Despite this, he knew that DLC was the expectation of fans, so the team started the production of DLC. However, over time, he reached a consensus with Yang Qi and decided to give up DLC and instead develop "Black Myth: Zhong Kui" - a brand new work that contains new heroes, gameplay, vision, technology and stories.
Feng Ji mentioned that although DLC is safe and clear, the new work can bring more unknowns and challenges, which is also the fun of the game. He said that "Black Myth" will return in a more complete and solid form and continue to deliver new works to players.
The original text is as follows:
The Black Myth: Wukong has been released for quite a while, and I was in a fog.
A thing that I have been thinking about for nearly twenty years finally has a result. And this result exceeded the initial expectations too much.
Really speaking, you should roll around the ground and hum gently every day.
It is unfortunate that the human bottom presupposition is not like this. The strong positive emotions seem to last very short, and happiness always passes in the blink of an eye.
What I really couldn't get away with during that time was mainly confusion, emptiness and panic (I know it's pretentious to say this, don't shoot). But no matter how I feel ashamed of "not being happy", these emotions still come uncontrollably and surging - especially when they are drowned in "when will anyone issue DLCs or not?"
As a professional adult, I am also good at hiding these negatives, convince myself to cheer up, and honestly start doing DLC.
Because I know very well that the friends who urge DLC are undoubtedly people who love black monkeys, people who like to travel, and people who carry us all the way up the mountain.
So, after the release, I determined some directions, wrote some settings, and held some meetings. The team started to reign seriously according to the plan of "doing DLC first".
This is until one day this year, Yang Qi left me a message in the morning, saying, "I want to ask for advice on something important."
I happened to have something to do that day and was not in the company during the day, so I made an appointment to come back to chat in the evening.
When I came back, I saw him, the first thing I asked was, "Do you don't want to do DLC, you want to do new ones?"
Relieved, happy, and naturally, we hit it off.
And then, I began to convince other colleagues one after another.
And then, there is the "Black Myth: Zhong Kui" you saw today.
DLC is of course an indestructible choice, but at this moment, we want to make a new work of black myths first—
New heroes, new gameplay, new vision, new technology, and new stories.
Let go of your hands and feet, try boldly, do not restrict the law, start from scratch.
Maybe many people think that DLC is very stable, DLC is very safe, DLC is very clear, and DLC will be faster.
But many of the second creation works I have seen are already more prosperous and unrestrained than our previous DLC ideas [doge]
Like everyone, I love the world of demons, gods and Buddhas in Journey to the West, so the legend of Wukong will be prepared in a more complete and solid way in the future, and then officially come back.
In the book "Mr. Iwata", Nintendo's old president said: "There is no future on the existing extension line."
There is surprise only when there is an unknown; there is a challenge only when there is a fun.
Game Science will continue to deliver every new answer with everyone's love and wish.
