Pitch: A Game of Skill and Deduction

Pitch is a classic trick-taking card game for four players, played with a standard 52-card deck. It is a partnership game, with the two players sitting opposite each other forming a team. The game's objective is to be the first team to reach 100 points by winning tricks and bidding accurately.

Setup:

The deck is shuffled and each player is dealt 13 cards. The remaining 13 cards form the kitty, which is placed face down in the center of the table.

Bidding:

Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each player in turn bids the number of tricks they believe their team will take. The minimum bid is 1, and the maximum bid is 13.

Exchanging Cards:

After the bidding is complete, the player to the left of the dealer takes the kitty and looks at it. They may then exchange up to three cards from their hand with cards from the kitty.

Gameplay:

The player who bid the highest number of tricks leads the first trick by playing any card from their hand. The other players must follow suit if possible. If they cannot follow suit, they may play any card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick, unless a trump card is played. Trump cards are the spades, and they beat all other suits.

The player who wins the trick leads the next trick. This continues until all 13 tricks have been played.

Scoring:

* Making the bid: If a team makes the number of tricks they bid, they score 10 points for each trick bid.

* Overbidding: If a team fails to make their bid, they lose 10 points for each trick they missed.

* Underbidding: If a team makes more tricks than they bid, they score 1 point for each additional trick.

* Going alone: If a player believes they can take all 13 tricks, they may bid 13 and go alone. If they succeed, their team scores 26 points. If they fail, their team loses 26 points.

Winning:

The first team to reach 100 points wins the game.
