Japanese media AUTOMATON recently interviewed Joanna Wang, artistic director of Sucker Punch, production team of the upcoming new work "Ghost of Yōtei", and explained how to use PS5 hardware to shape the visual style of this work. She said that the leap in the hardware of the new generation of consoles has allowed more details to be presented, bringing players unprecedented precision to present the vision of Hokkaido.

"In the early stages of development, we realized that the rendering distance must be improved. In order to show the vastness of Hokkaido maps, high-fidelity vision rendering and precise spatial depth need to be achieved."

With the hardware performance of PS5, the development team can now load millions of resources at the same time, present tens of thousands of visible objects instantly, and fill hundreds of thousands of real-time particle special effects in far and near scenes, such as snow, flying leaves, fog and ash. Other visual enhancements include improved starry sky and aurora effects, grass renderings, and terrain deformation (such as the real fall of snow on branches), further enhancing the immersion of the world.

The DualSense handle of PS5 also helps to immerse yourself in the immersive experience. Joanna Wang describes how haptic feedback and built-in speakers enhance the touch: the player's palm can sense the vibration of the collision of swords, and the music of Sanweixin will flow out of the handle speaker.

Joanna Wang also shared the team's artistic guidance philosophy: "Every resource used for development must fit our rendering system and color system." To achieve the iconic painting texture, the team used noise reduction technology to eliminate visual interference and carefully restrict the types of colors to focus on the visual focus. For example, the grassland scene only uses white flowers to guide the player's sight through contrasting colors.

What made Joanna Wang most proud of was testing the task of climbing Yangti Mountain: "When I climbed the top and looked into the distance, I felt the grandeur of the world as the sea of clouds surging under my feet. This is a perfect fusion of art, technology, rendering and special effects."
