Creative Director of "Silent Hill 2 Remake": We won't make a 1:1 remake
Mateusz Lenart, creative director of "Silent Hill 2 Remake", revealed in a panel discussion at the game developer conference: The studio believes that if some of the older mechanisms and features of the original work are not adopted, it will be impossible to do "Silent Hill 2: Remake".
Lenart talked about the developer Bloober Team's view of "Silent Hill 2: Remake" that they believed that "maybe there is no good way to create a remake of this work", but this does not mean that it is to make it a 1:1 remake. The studio will still add some modern elements, such as the shoulder-length perspective and more modern control methods, so as to bring the memories of this classic horror game back to the vision of modern players.
Lenart said: "From the beginning, we knew that the story of this game was the most important aspect, and we didn't want to make too many changes to it. But it was also clear that it was difficult to present the story in the modern era without changing the mechanism or fighting style. One of the earliest decisions we made was to change the perspective from the third person to the conventional overshoulder perspective, but we knew that making such a change would lose a certain style of the original work."
Bloober Team previously collaborated with Korami to remake the classic horror game "Silent Hill 2". The remake of the game was launched on PC and PS5 platforms in October 2024. After the game was released, it performed well in both media reviews and sales. It sold more than 1 million copies in the first three days of its release. As of January this year, the sales of "Silent Hill 2: Remake" has exceeded 2 million copies.
