The new national standard for electric bicycles has been implemented: the speed cannot exceed 25 kilometers per hour!

Sep 03 2025

From September 1, the new national standard for electric bicycles will be officially implemented. According to the new regulations, the maximum weight limit for lithium-battery electric bicycles is 55 kg, while the maximum weight limit for lead-acid battery models is increased to 63 kg. The new standard requires manufacturers to optimize braking performance and strengthen controller tamper-proof measures. Once the speed of the electric bicycle exceeds 25 kilometers per hour, the motor will stop providing power.

In addition, the new national standard also stipulates that the proportion of plastic materials to the vehicle's weight shall not exceed 5.5% to reduce fire risks, and the installation of rearview mirrors is encouraged to improve safety and reduce accident rates. For positioning functions, the new standard requires that electric bicycles be equipped with a Beidou positioning system, but consumers can choose whether to enable this function, and positioning services are provided for free.

Experts pointed out that by adding Beidou positioning, communication and dynamic security monitoring functions, consumers can grasp the key safety data of electric bicycles in real time. Once abnormal situations occur, such as the vehicle being stolen or the battery temperature is too high, the communication module can help users take countermeasures through reminders as soon as possible, thereby improving the active safety of the vehicle.
