The producer of "Lost Souls" is so miserable: I have lost my hair and women when I make a game!
Recently, foreign media TwistedVoxel reported the hardship story of Yang Bing, the producer of "Lost Souls". The development process of this work is full of passion and sacrifice. During the 11 years of production, Yang Bing not only began to fall off and turn white, but also lost his relationship due to high-intensity pressure.
Yang Bing was inspired by "Final Fantasy 13Versus" in 2014 and taught himself 3D modeling and programming. In 2016, a five-minute prototype video uploaded by him unexpectedly became popular and eventually reached a cooperation with Sony Interactive Entertainment to join the "China Star Project". He founded UltiZeroGames in 2017, with a team size of less than five.
However, when trying to open-world design in 2019, development almost collapsed. In 2020, despite the restart of the project, the team was able to recruit new people due to tight funding. Between 2021 and 2023, the epidemic exacerbated the dilemma, and Yang Bing took on almost most of the integration work alone, causing the physical and mental conditions to deteriorate.
In 2024, Sony intervened in the adjustment, significantly reduced the original ten chapters plot, and postponed the release. During this period, the studio also experienced controversy over employee speech and player conflicts. Although the budget is far lower than the two masterpieces "Black Myth: Goku" and "Sword Star", "Lost Soul" was finally released as scheduled on August 29, 2025.
